Permanent Supportive Housing Conversation (forwarded from Councilmember Laura Morrison)
The City is formally committed to geographic dispersion of affordable housing, which means all kinds of housing in all parts of town - North, South, East, and West. As we work toward that goal, we need a productive and efficient process for engagement of community stakeholders that will work for all neighborhoods and all types of housing developments.
Mayor Pro-Tem Sheryl Cole and I invite you to a discussion Thursday, November 17th centered around creating a framework for neighborhood engagement for proposals for affordable housing and permanent supportive housing.
Thursday, November 17th
7pm - 8:30pm
One Texas Center, Rm 325 (505 Barton Springs Road)
Please attend this session, or ask a representative from your neighborhood to attend. To be successful, we need perspectives from neighborhoods all across Austin.
We are exploring the introduction of a set of "Good Neighbor" guidelines intended to facilitate communication between affordable housing developers and surrounding neighborhoods. This would help address issues such as property maintenance and appearance, neighborhood codes of conduct, community safety, communication and agreement monitoring and compliance. The goal is to have these guidelines promote communication and establish a successful approach to integrating a range of affordable housing throughout the city.
We also plan to use this gathering as an opportunity to discuss ideas about how to more effectively achieve geographic dispersion of affordable housing.
