City of Austin is proposing a change to its traffic calming program
Dear Neighborhood Group,
The City of Austin is proposing a change to its traffic calming program. The new program is called Local Area Traffic Management (LATM). Initially this new program will provide a process for mitigating excessive speeding on neighborhood streets. Eventually the program will include methodologies for dealing with cut-through traffic and the removal of existing traffic control devices.
The guidelines and procedures for LATM were presented to the Urban Transportation Commission (UTC) on November 8th. The LATM PowerPoint presentation from that meeting as well as the proposed guidelines and procedures are available on the UTC website. The guidelines and procedures can be found at: http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/ edims/document.cfm?id=160679
and the PowerPoint is at
Please take time to review and consider providing comments on the revised guidelines and procedures by December 5th. Comments can be emailed to transportation@austintexas.gov
A second presentation will be made to UTC in December to follow up on any comments received. Assuming no significant issues, the program will start in January 2012.
